Patchwork Hanging Heart

Here's a simple little patchwork heart I made for my neighbour a few weeks ago. I was asked if I could make one to adorn a pretty white painted writing bureau they have recently bought.
Choose your fabrics.
My neighbour chose a green floral for the back (top of pile in photo) and 2 Cath Kidston fabrics and a blue & white polka dot fabric for the patchwork.
Cut a template. This one measured 15.5x17cms.

Pin the heart template to the backing fabric & cut out leaving a 1cm seam allowance.

Lay out the fabrics which will form your patchwork front.
Pin & sew the 2 smaller pieces of fabric together leaving a 1cm seam allowance. Press the fabric & seams.
Sew the third piece of fabric to the first 2 pieces to form your patchwork. Press the seam.
Pin the heart template to the patchwork piece & cut leaving a 1cm seam allowance.

Front & back sections
Choose ribbon or string to hang your heart by. If you are planning to add any embellishments (buttons, hand embroidery) do this before sewing together.
Face fabric right sides together & add the ribbon. Make sure to put the ribbon loop inside the heart so it is facing outwards when the heart is turned right sides out. Sew the heart together leaving a 1cm seam allowance. Leave a gap on the side of the heart so you can turn it inside out and stuff it.
Press if the fabric has creased.
Stuff the heart with soft toy filling & handstitch the gap.
